New Sew Along

Hi Everyone and Welcome to My Blog,

Roseanne and Sue @ Home Sewn By Us is hosting their second sew along.  It is my favorite kind, no pressure and no time limits.  They provide plenty time to complete our quilts.  From time to time she also shares shares our progress on her blog.

On their last one, I didn’t join until a month or so in and I was still able to complete it in time for their final post.  This one is even better because we can choose from three different patterns.

Others who have joined the sew along is as follows:

I’ve chosen Triangles.  A couple of weeks ago in preparation of this I purchased a Creative Grids 60 Degree Double Strip Ruler Template.  I really like the stickies it has on the back so the ruler doesn’t shift as easily during cutting.  I also thought it would make quicker work of cutting all those triangles.

Then last week I made my way to my local fabric shop and purchased fabrics.  I had a great time with the help of the ladies who work there choosing our favorite combinations. Please see my choices.  I’m really pleased and think they will make a great looking quilt.

Take a look at the ruler in action.  See how many triangles you can cut without moving the ruler. This is just fantastic.

Triangle Ruler

It did make quick work of the cutting.  I sliced all the fabric strips according to the directions at 4 1/2″ each.  Then used the 60 degree ruler to cut the triangles.  I got all these triangles cut in about three hours which is pretty quick for me.  Take a look at the piles of triangles ready for stitching.

I hope my quick start will continue, but I have a couple other projects I’m working on.  I’ll try to devote a little time to each as I go along.

I hope you also like my fabric choices and can’t wait to see what the others who have joined have chosen.

The linky parties I usually participate in can be found by clicking this link.  Please visit them and see what others are up to leave some comments and encouragement.  There are many bloggers out there who share their tips, projects, and tutorials to inspire us.

That’s all for now.  Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Hi Cherie! Oooh, those fabrics look fabulous to me. I love those pinks on the far right – they look so pretty together. Well, all of them look great together – nice selection! I can’t wait to see how this comes together. And that ruler looks fabulous as well – how handy to cut so many at one time. I need to get one of those! Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne

      1. Hi Denise, I think from now on Creative Grids are the only rulers I want going forward.

    1. Hi Sue, Thanks for clicking my links.  I’m glad they work.  I do like the fabrics I chose.  This fabric choice was the easiest for me so far.  Sometime I get stumped when I get to the store.  The ladies there were wonderful.   Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey

  3. Hello Cherie; What lovely fabrics you have chosen for this Quilt A Long and the quilt you have chosen to create! I have found that I love to cut out triangles, but I do awful at sewing them together. LOL. Good thing I have a good quilting friend who is a breeze at it. Together we have made 3 triangle quilts for Project Linus. I have still not completely committed to joining the QAL, it depends on if I can get a couple other quilts finished. If I can, I will make the first quilt. I think it is really superb of you to share all of the information on your blog and help spread the news for Roseanne and Sue! I also look forward to seeing your posts about how your quilt is coming along! Have a great day!

    1. Hi Brenda, I haven’t done triangles yet.  I hope their not too hard.  I’m going to double check my cutting before I sew just to make sure.  Roseanne is a great blogging friend who always comments on my posts like you do.  I am happy to help promote her QAL.   Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey

  4. Cherie, I LOVE the colors and fabrics you selected – that will be such a pretty quilt. Sometimes I think it would be fun for a group of quilters that live near each other to have a library of sorts for quilting rulers – That ruler looks really helpful but only works for triangles, right? So if a 1/2 dozen people chipped in and they all used it as they needed to….. wouldn’t that be great? I have no idea how one would start this but it seems like it could work. Love all three of the patterns for the QAL. I especially like the first one. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

    1. Hi Bernie, What a great idea.  A quilting ruler library where you could check them out for a couple weeks and then return.  If you were late you get a fee that could increase the stock after the first investment.  I also want to say that you resemble my Aunt that lives in OH.  Every time I ready your blog it amazes me.   Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey

  5. Cherie, I LOVE the fabric you chose for the triangles! I’m jealous you have the ruler, I already had both the smaller and larger 60 degree ruler when they introduced the double strip ruler – I couldn’t justify buying it 🙂

    1. Hi Karla, If I had any triangle rulers I probably wouldn’t have bought it either.  I guess since this is my first triangle quilt I just went for the gusto on the ruler.  It looked like a lot of triangles to cut.  I wanted to make it easier.   Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey

  6. I do like your fabric choices! This will be really pretty. If you do the leader-ender thing, I think at least the first part of this pattern could be done as leader-enders between other things. That ruler is amazing. I’ve seen it, but not yet succumbed. =)

    1. Hi Susan, The leader-ender technique is a great idea to get this quilt together.  Right now I’m pretty focused on my nostalgia twist quilt that is paper pieced.  Not all the seams start at the end of the paper. But maybe I could on those seams.     Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey
