Pattern Testing for a Friend

A while back I was asked to test a foundation pieced pattern.  It was the first time I had ever tried that technique, but I jumped right in the project.  I thought the pattern was gorgeous and it looked pretty intense for a newbie.  I learned very quickly that paper piecing was very different from regular piecing.  However, the pattern was clear and easy to follow.  Denise uses a strip method that I’ve come to appreciate. Please take a look at her tutorial.  The only way I can explain it is that you cut strips of fabric that you can fit the template in.  I’m only a novice, but I don’t find there is as much wasted fabric.

So now I am doing another pattern test for her.  It is called the Nostalgia Twist.  You can see her example in progress here.  And a quick picture.

When she sent me the pattern, I mentioned it would look good in green and I would probably use the colorway.  Since she already had my idea, I’ve decided on something a little different.  So, please take a look at mine. I’ve done the mariner’s compass in the primary colors and will do the rest in blue and white.
