This is the second year that I’m participating in the Bloggers Quilt Festival hosted by Amy Ellis at Amy’s Creative Side. There are many generous sponsors giving away wonderful prizes. Please click on her site and visit them. I’m sure they have something you just got to have.
My second entry is my Regatta Quilt. I joined in with Roseanne’s QAL earlier this year. I just love her QAL’s. They are no stress and no deadlines. It’s really easy-going. She follows us and features them on her blog from time to time.
The pattern was from Daniela at Block M Quilts. It was a fairly easy pattern and came together very well. There is nothing more soothing to me than sewing long strips together. I’ve heard it called mindless sewing. It really does clear the mind.
Once I got to the quilting, I watched a Jacquie Gering class on walking foot quilting. It was called Next Steps With Your Walking Foot. I used her braid technique. I learned from her classes that you can do very interesting quilting without FMQ. You can see the quilting better in this photo. Some of the rows only show the first pass, but once I was finished each had a braided look.
I’m feeling pretty proficient with my walking foot quilting and will move on to giving FMQ on my domestic machine a focus. I have tried it out on a couple quilts so far, but I don’t think I’m very good at it. I mentioned yesterday that my UFO pile is growing so I am hoping I will get some good practice on them in the near future. I’m a long away from a long arm so this will have to do for now.

Hi Cherie! Thanks for the shout out. This is such a pretty finish. The colors are muted and relaxing to me. I know the size is just perfect for snuggling under, and that quilting pattern you chose means it is not too stiff. Just perfect when washed to feel all that great quilty softness. Cherie I did this one too with Roseanne. I love you quilting. Walking foot is my favorite quilting. I may need to try this one soon. Thanks for sharing.

My Regatta has stalled at the quilting…. 😦 But I think I just found my answer. :)… I like this idea a lot! Did you use white thread… and just mark junctions or did you have a curved template?

Hi Dione, I’m glad you like it. I found an heavy duty file folder and cut out a orange peel template that reached across the 2 inches. I then got hubby to drill a hole in the very middle of it so I could see where the intersection should be. Me being OCD, did mark up the whole template just because I didn’t think I would be able to get it consistent on my own. If you try it send over a picture. I’d love to see.
