Check Out The Loot

Hi Everyone and Welcome to My Blog,

As I mentioned last week, I was going to the LA Shop Hop.  The ladies I met were all wonderful and kind.  I still haven’t decided on which of the quilts I’d like to do, but they were all so beautiful.  I’ve decided to think on it a little longer.

I did however, buy some yardage for gifts.  I am hoping to make some kitchen and dining room accessories to gift on the upcoming holidays.  I also purchased quite a few fat quarters to add to my stash.  Take a look at the haul.  This was only the first day of the hop.  I have even more now and I already ate the snacks that were given.

LA Shop Hop 2018

You may notice that every thing is doubled.  That is because my husband (greatest love, best friend, Mr. Fixit, chauffeur, shop hop buddy, etc.) came along with me.  I purchased him a passport and it was double the goodies and chances to win.  The grand prize winners have not been awarded yet.  I am hoping some of Roseanne’s luck will rub off on me.

With all this hopping around I guess you can imagine I didn’t get much done in the sewing room.  I did get a block done for my PinWheel Roundabout BOM.  You can find additional finished blocks throughout my blog this year.  Here’s a before and after shot.

August Block cut

August Block

It has very interesting corner blocks.  You can’t really tell by my picture because I cut off the top but the plaid blue was cut as a long diamond shape.  I first had to sew the dark blue patch on it and then cut off the extra plaid.  This was a new technique for me and I was a little bit intimidated by it at first.  But as you can see it all worked out as planned and I learned something new.  We received out sashing instructions, but I’m not ready to tackle that just yet.  I’ve just started thinking of the fabric I want to choose.  There are two different fabrics in the sashing that makes a pinwheel in each corner.  I am leaning to a pop of rust color to accent the flowers in the middle block and red fabric with the second color being undetermined but could be either navy or green.  Decisions, decisions!  I encourage any suggestions.

The linky parties I usually participate in can be found by clicking this link.  Please visit them and see what others are up to leave some comments and encouragement.  There are many bloggers out there who share their tips, projects, and tutorials to inspire us.

That’s all for now.  Thanks for stopping by.

Cherie

    1. Hi Wendy, The Grand Prize is a Tailormade Cutting table, http://www.tailormadecabinets.com/cutting-table.htm worth $1200.   I would be nice not to have to cut my blocks out on my kitchen island.  Each shop also has a gift basket worth $250 each.  Any of these would also be much appreciated.  As well as some gift cards and some fat quarter prizes.

  1. Hello Cherie; How wonderful that you and your husband had such a good time on the shop hop and what a great collection of “goodies” you did bring home with you. Although, I can not see many of the fabrics shown, I do like the grapes on black! That will be a fun fabric to work with! I also want to compliment you on the beautiful fabric choices you are using for this fun star block! I know I have got to look through my stash and see if I have anything in comparison. Thank you so much for sharing and have a fantastic day!

    1. Hi Brenda, I just thought those grapes were beautiful and would look good as kitchen mits and potholders.  The fabric below it that you cannot see too well has crawfish, crabs, shrimp, and all the necessary ingredients for a boil in LA.  I will probably blog about the making of them and you’ll be able to see them in full.  As far as the star, I wasn’t so sure about the medium blues.  One is supposed to be light and one medium, but I had already bought the fabric and just went with it.  I don’t think it looks too bad.    Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey

    1. Hi Roseanne,I just saw on Facebook that I did not win the Grand Prize.  The gift baskets are still to be decided.  I might still get lucky.  It was a good time anyway.  The goody bags and experience are enough for me.   Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey

  3. Great haul of goodies. My sister sometimes talks my “totally non-quilting” mother along for double the entries too. It’s a fun mother/daughter time. Hope you win! 🤞 Your block is quite beautiful too, btw!

  4. Best of luck with the shop hop prizes. What a lot of lovely things! If my DH went with me, he kept everything, because he would occasionally make a quilt, too, and he used my longarm. Your block is wonderful!

    1. Hi Suz, I try to encourage my husband to at least learn the workings of my machine so he could work on it for me.  He hasn’t really expressed any interest in it though.  I wanted him to take a class.  Maybe when it’s time to retire it would be some extra income with not very much manual labor.   Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey

  6. I just finished hopping the entire state for the Quilt MN Shop Hop. Tu-Na Helper thinks we should do a different state next year. I’d be interesting in learning more about the LA shop hop. Can you direct me where to find out more about it? Thanks. kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com

    1. We did have a blast.  I enjoy the road trip.  Sometimes just a reason to get out of the house from time to time.  And of course seeing all the great quilts and items at all the shops.   Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey

    1. Hi Karla, Yes, I am very grateful for him.  He puts up with all my quilt craziness.  We are planning a trip to MSQC in September for their 10th birthday.  I am trying to find some car museums along the way to entertain him also.  It can’t always be about quilting.    Best Regards,Cherie BurtonCherie’s Quilting Journey
