Regatta QAL Progress

Hi Everyone and Welcome to My Blog,

I’ve been working on my Regatta Quilt.  I joined Roseanne’s Regatta QAL a little late.  It was a no pressure QAL in which there were no time limits so I didn’t feel like I had to rush to catch up or even keep up.  Many have already finished theirs and I am as always running behind.  It seemed like it was an easy pattern from Block M Quilts so I joined in the party.  You can see my previous progress here.  Roseanne mentioned she will have a final blog coming up.  I hope I can have mine finished in time.

I made my quilt sandwich and had a plan for the quilting last Friday.  I recently upgraded to Craftsy Unlimited and took a Jacquie Gering class on walking foot quilting.  It was called Next Steps With Your Walking Foot.  I really like the idea she showed me about making some gentle curves across the quilt.  After a four passes it will look like a braided line.  I made a template that would fit just short of my 2 inch strips out of a heavy-duty file folder.  Why buy it when you can make it?  I’m trying to be thrifty.  In the first picture I’ve made 2 passes on the off white fabric.  My very nice husband drilled a hole in the middle and I intend to position the hole over the place where the two seams meet to keep it symmetrical.  Then I will be able to mark the next 2 seams.  Take a look.

  1. Hi Cherie,
There’s still no rush on the Regatta! I’m not doing a final round-up until June or even July. No pressure – that’s what we like around here. I love the quilting method you shared – how cool is that and it looks GREAT. The template idea is a good one too – I love the idea of using a file folder. Why not use what you have on hand! ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. I enjoyed seeing what you are doing at a little closer range. I understand better now about that template. The results are really great! I probably won’t ever do FMQ, as I was a longarmer, and it spoiled me, but I do try little things with the walking foot – I call it WFQ. =) I will have to try this one! I think I’m going to look at wooden craft things at Hobby Lobby, too, and see if anything jumps out at me as useful!

    1. A wooden or plastic template would have probably been better. As I continue along, the cardboard is starting to get a bit ragged. I will have to dispose of it once I’m done. I was just trying to be thrifty.

  3. Wow! you are doing great for a beginner. I love your color choices. My tip would be measure, measure, measure at each part of construction–less chance of wonky blocks.
