Hi Everyone,

First, I want to give a big thank you to my new friend Roseanne (Home Sewn By Us) who was the first person to follow me on WordPress.  She left me a couple of comments and advised on how I might correct my bobbin tension issues.  I appreciate your support and encouragement.  While I was giving her a follow back, I noticed the Bloggers Quilt Festival so I thought I might give it a try.

Not long ago I did the Sugar Bloom Quilt Along and am pleased with the results.  It was my first time free motion quilting as well as participating in a quilt along.  Let’s take a look a look at the front.

Finished Front

I used  a spring fling jelly roll from Wilmington Prints and Moda solids.  I had some extra strips left after the piecing so I used them in the binding.  I was trying to use up all the fabric I could.  That being said there are a few strips left and I should have used them in the backing but I drew a blank so I just went the easy way.  Here’s a look at the back.

    What a pretty quilt! I love all the colors and that backing is just perfect. Nice job on the FMQing. I have been wondering about your thread issue – you’ll have to post when you get that fixed! ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Hi Roseanne,
      I tried to adjust the tension again last night and what you’ve seen is the best I can get it. It seems to be only when I travel certain ways. When I go left all is good and when I go right then I see the bobbin threads. I’m thinking that maybe going forward I should use the same color thread in the top and bottom. At least you won’t be able to tell as much. On the hunter star quilt I was afraid to use the khaki on the top because it would show off the wiggles too much. Oh well, it is what it is, but I’ll keep trying. I hope you won’t mind if from time to time I reach out to you for advice if I have further issues. Thanks a bunch. Cherie PS.         You just ask away – I will be glad to help you any way I can. I wonder what thread you are using? It might be the brand of thread – some machines are very picky! Yes, and thank you for the shout out. That is so sweet of you. We are both newbies in the blogging arena! ~smile~ Roseanne

      2. Hi Roseanne,
        I haven’t tried a different thread yet. Maybe that is the issue. I’ve only used chain store coats and clarks. My Mom has a Bernina that she says she had trouble with and started using a more expensive thread to fix the issues. I thought she was just being picky. Maybe she is rubbing off on me. LOL. She usually sews garments. Would you suggest Aurifil thread? I’ve seen that one as well as Superior thread. One more thing if you don’t mind, what weight would you suggest for free motion?

      3. Hi Cherie – I have used Aurifil for the first time this year and I love it. I found it at the local quilt store and also at Craftsy. I have used 50 wt. I’m NOT an expert by any means! I also have used Gutermann thread for years – that’s from Joann’s. It sure is worth a try! ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. Cherie, this is a beautiful cheery quilt. I love the bright colors with the white. Thanks for sharing and I am now a bloglovin follower. I’ve only been quilting a few year too and FMQ is still something I’d like to try.

  12. Very pretty quilt! Here’s a blogging suggestion. Join the new quilt bloggers group next year, I think Beth at cooking Up Quilts is one of the hosts. You’ll learn a lot. You have to be blogging for less than 3 years. I joined last year and this year and it’s really helped. I am much more comfortable with writing posts and linking to other parties. Plus now I’m read in 62 countries and have lots of followers. But that comes with another headache as they cry for posts and I’m shamefully behind on writing. I’d rather spend my time looking at beautiful quilts this weekend.

    1. Hi Karen, I appreciate your advice. I looked up new blogger quilt group and found the resources and advice post. I will read through them. I’m sure they will be much help. I find myself not being able to produce a post everyday like some do. I am concerned that this will be a problem as you mentioned. I wonder if there are other requirements to join this group such as this or is it pretty easy going. ~ Cherie
